Escentral has chosen to participate in a four-day week pilot for six months, starting on Monday 2nd December.
This pilot will see all members of our core staff participating and will, in the main, be working Monday to Thursday. Both full and part time staff are included in this pilot.
Working a 4-day week is something that Escentral’s senior team began researching back in the summer of 2024 and by working with the 4 Day Week Campaign through the autumn, the decision was made with our core team also championing the change.
From December, full time staff will work 32 hours per week instead of their usual 35 hours and over 4 days rather than 5. Our part time colleagues will also see their usual hours drop by the same proportion.
"A tired, drained, and burnt-out team is not one that can deliver its best. Introducing a 4-day workweek for our core team is just one way that we are ensuring we don’t fall into the burnout culture that’s all too common in many industries and professions," said Ben Moreland, Director of Escentral. "Naturally, maintaining the high quality of service we provide to our clients is crucial, and I believe this new way of working will only enhance it."
But Escentral won’t be going it alone. Working with the 4 Day Week Campaign means we can tap into a set of ready resources as well as collaborate with companies, organisations and charities from across the UK who are also involved in the Autumn 2024 trial.
Escentral’s team have already been canvassed for their opinions before the trial starts, and with regular reviews across the company in the coming months, senior management are looking forward to the results.
Escentral is not averse to trailblazing in both the innovation of its client services and progressive working practices. With a fully remote team and flexible working arrangements, we seamlessly develop events and courses through the Timetabling Academy, deliver onsite space utilisation surveys, model future university estates worldwide, and collaborate with institutions to enhance operational practices and deliver improved services.
Remote working has also allowed us to recruit the best talent, regardless of location, and collaborate effectively with experts around the world, driving meaningful improvements and ensuring lasting positive impacts for our clients.
Previous trials have shown improved productivity as well as better staff well-being, two things that Escentral consider paramount to its success hence our participation in the trial.
