We know August and September are busy months in the timetabling world and that often, you could do with all the support you can get.

With that in mind, we asked our very own timetabling guru, Sarah Wood, for her top three tips to help you prepare. Sarah timetabled at the University of York for more than 10 years before joining us as a consultant, so she certainly knows a thing or two about super scheduling!

Timetabling tips to get you new-term ready

Check these off ahead of the start of a new year and your timetable will be ready when students start coming back through those campus doors…

  • Recheck your allocations
Sounds obvious, but it’s worth doing as the new term approaches. Double check all sessions have teaching staff allocated and that students know exactly where they need to be and when. Also check room allocations are the right size and have the right equipment in them.

  • Spring-clean your student data
Check that all relevant departments have their student data up-to-date and that you have full oversight of which students are on which courses – if you spot any gaps in knowledge then now’s the time to fill them.

  • Check in on last-minute changes
At the start of a busy new term, crucial information can sometimes get lost in translation. It’s worth getting in touch with each department to make sure there aren’t any last-minute surprises coming your way… such as changes to those all-important student numbers!
