Strange Space Requests Revealed!

As a space manager you get some bizarre requests.

We know… because you tell us!

For a bit of fun, we thought we’d round up a few of our favourite ones to share with you.

You share your bizarre space request stories…

“I was once asked to schedule a class in a toilet. Not everyone knew about the new layout of a building, and the person who asked didn’t realise the room they wanted was now a loo.”

“I've been asked to change someone's teaching room because the furniture was making them unhappy.”

“I had to rearrange classes because a swan had taken over a quad space and was distracting the students. And a group of ducks had somehow found their way into a classroom!”

“We were once asked to find external space for a class so we didn’t disturb a nesting goose.”

“I had to explain to a department that the best place for a new building wasn’t on top of where our major gas and water services were buried!”

Do you have a story to rival these ones? We’d love to hear it… come and share it over on LinkedIn!

Disruptive ducks aside, it’s a tough job…

Bird-themed blips aside, the crazy asks tend to happen because colleagues aren’t aware of your bigger picture (like changes to campus layouts).

The not-so-crazy ones can be just as tricky to deal with too. Requests for space often clash, and you’re the one trying to keep everyone happy (and make sure no one is left teaching in a toilet!)

It’s a tough job – even without disruptive ducks to deal with.

How to take the pain out of managing space requests

As part of our Space Management Basecamp we run a half day workshop that helps you take the pain out of managing space requests.

We show you how to negotiate and manage expectations when requests clash. And how to strengthen communication with colleagues, so that competing (or strange!) ones land less often in the first place.

We may even have a few more stories to share when you join us. 😂
