Working out how much space you need for your art students often comes with its own unique challenges.
On top of timetabled classes, they often need studio space they can drop in and out of to do their work.This can make planning tricky!
Over at the University of Dundee, we’ve been working with the space management team to make it an easier task all-round.
How? By working a little Escentral magic!
We’re in the process of building adaptable space model, that allows the team to test all sorts of different scenarios and see the impact each one has on the actual space required.
We can’t give all our secrets away here, but we can tell you it started with us heading up to Dundee to get a thorough understanding of how the current spaces are used.
Using the data we collected, we’re now creating a model they’ll be able to use to:
✔️Plan space use for all of next year’s art courses
✔️Minimise wasted space
✔️Plan future refurbishments
The project is really helping the university to get the most out of its estate, avoid ‘dead’ space and save money too. You could say it’s getting space planning down to a fine art. 😊
