Estate Right-Sizing
Teaching & Exam Space Modelling
Accurately define future estate requirements through student-centric scenario planning and capacity analytics. Translate recruitment targets, curriculum changes and more into precise space requirements with institutional accuracy.
Scenario Modelling and Reporting Tool (SMART)
Our SMART tool uses your timetable, student, curriculum and estate data to model true teaching and exam demand. We build demand profiles for different scenarios (growth/contraction, curriculum change, teaching week reform, group-size rules, programme launches/closures, campus moves, estate change) so you can see exactly how decisions shift demand and supply. This reveals shortages, calculates safe recruitment limits and determines the precise mix of space needed as your institution evolves, providing a clear, scenario-tested basis for reconfiguring the estate and supporting financially robust strategies.
Our Teaching Space Modelling service uses SMART to model real demand using timetable, student, curriculum and estate data. It identifies impact by week across room types and buildings, showing exactly where you have shortages or where space can be safely repurposed.
SMART recreates your timetable delivery per programme and module to reflect your constraints and the scenarios you want to test. We can calculate safe recruitment limits by year and entry point and show how policy and delivery changes (teaching week, group size rules, space standards) shift those limits and pressure points across the estate.
Built on your own data and ways of working, the model reflects how your university actually operates. We can stress-test hundreds of scenarios to help you understand the impact of different decisions and trade-offs, providing a robust evidence base for capital projects, estate consolidation and long-term space strategy, with repeatable outputs for major investment cases.
Using SMART and your real exam data, our Exam Space Modelling service builds fully clash-free, student-level exam timetables under a range of modelled scenarios, so you can validate whether future demand will fit your current estate and rules before you commit to change.
We lay an operational framework of clash avoidance rules, spacing requirements, daily exam limits and supervisor availability, then incorporate per-student accommodations such as access arrangements, extra time, small-group/isolated rooms and computer-based exams.
When a scenario fails, we pinpoint the precise bottleneck: capacity shortfalls, over-constrained room types, policy limits— and translate results into a roadmap for estate investment, policy change, wellbeing improvements and operational resourcing.
